Reassignment
Back to Employers

There are 2 scenarios whereby a student can be 'REASSIGNED', they are:

1. Students can be 'reassigned' in SAP provided the Employee Group remains within the student spectrum (EE Group = 7) - AND - the student is paid using the same employee 'sub group' (aka pay frequency).

For example, your student employee has completed their undergraduate degree and has been accepted into a JHU graduate program, he or she could be 'reassigned' from an Undergraduate to Graduate student employee without having to terminate and rehire them.
Please note: If the student's status is changing from either an undergraduate or graduate student position to that of a Post-Doc, Intern, or Resident you MUST make a note in the comments section of the ISR asking HRSS to discontinue the FICA exemption.

2. Students can be 'reassigned' if they have completed their degree requirements and you wish to have them continue working in your department - same job/same rate of pay - for a period not to exceed 6-months. In this case, they would be reassigned from student employee to temporary staff member. For detailed information and 'how-to', please go to graduation.

On the other hand, if the student is being hired into a 'staff' position (different job, different rate of pay) you MUST terminate them from their student position before you process a New Hire Regular ISR (non-student hire).
