Post all part-time student job notices with Student Employment Services (SES) and notify SES when the job openings have been filled to keep job listing current. To post jobs, click here.

Immediately upon hiring a student, employers have the responsibility to complete the proper payroll documents (i.e., ISRs, Form I-9, FWS Form, etc.).
Form I-9
U.S Citizens:
You must instruct them to complete Section 1 of Form I-9 on or before the first day of work. This can be done by visiting www.newI9.com and inserting the employer code 11472.
Afterward, the student must visit the Office of Student Employment Services (SES) to present documentation for completion of Section 2 within three (3) business days from the first day of work for pay. Should the student fail to comply, you will be notified to suspend their employment immediately.
International Students and Permanent Residents: You must instruct students to complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 on or before the first day of work.
- For students who have a social security number issued by the U.S. Social Security Administration, they can complete Section 1 by taking the following steps:
- Sign on to www.newI9.com
- Insert employer code 11472 and “continue”
- Enter the text indicated in the box and “continue”
- Complete Section 1 of the Form I-9
- Select “Non-U.S. citizen faculty, staff, and student” as location
- Review the information for accuracy
- Complete the agreement section
- Click “continue”
Next
- Go to the OISSS web site at ww2.jhu.edu/isss/Services
- See STEP 1 to print the Data Collection Form for your employer to complete.
- Take the completed Data Collection Form along with evidence of identity and work authorization to OISSS to complete Section 2, Garland Hall, room 135.
- Students who do NOT have a social security number issued by the U.S. Social Security Administration must visit the OISSS to complete Section 1.

Employers have the responsibility to define the student's duties and responsibilities as a member of the staff. To see sample job descriptions, click here.
Employers have the responsibility to properly train students for assigned duties and provide appropriate supervision on a regular basis. For a copy of training checklist, click here.
Employers have the responsibility to outline all departmental/university policies and explain the consequences if students fail to adhered to them, (i.e., dress code, completing timesheets, use of office equipment, time and attendance, etc.). For students hired using Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding, employers have the responsibility to monitor the FWS earnings to insure that the student does not exceed his/her FWS award.
Employers have a responsibility to provide students with constructive feedback necessary to enhance their work performance and professional development. To get a copy of the Performance Evaluation Form, click here.
